Golden Retriever Grooming

Golden retrievers are beloved family dogs with thick, shedding double coats. Our goldens leave clean, brushed out, and carrying far less loose fur than they walked in with.

Managing the Golden Double Coat

We never shave double-coated breeds like goldens — shaving does not keep them cooler and can permanently damage the coat. Instead we bathe, blow out the loose undercoat, and trim the feathering, feet, and sanitary area for a neat, healthy look. This is the right way to groom a retriever.

De-Shedding That Actually Helps

Twice a year, goldens blow their coat and the shedding is relentless. A de-shedding bath and blow-out at those times removes a remarkable amount of loose fur and keeps your home cleaner for weeks. Many of our golden clients come in monthly during the heavy seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I shave my golden retriever to stop shedding?

No. Shaving a double-coated breed does not stop shedding and can damage the coat and temperature regulation. De-shedding and regular brushing are the correct approach.
